Professor Arthur Gerstenfeld & Professor Raphael Njoroge
The Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) University Professors formed a working partnership around the year 2000 and have worked in numerous joint ventures that include: authoring two books on Africa, namely, International Business and Education: A focus on Africa and United States published 2004 and Africa: The Next Decade published 2005. They have also organized six WPI U.S-Africa business conferences for the exploration of ideas that can benefit Africa. Once this university is in place the vision for Africa highlighted in their book will gradually be achieved in the next decade.
Professor Raphael Njoroge is a philosopher, educationist and social scientist. He is also an author of six books who is not new to expansion of education opportunities. After completing his university education in the U.S. in the late 1960s he returned to Kenya and became headmaster of Mangu High School. Working with President Kibaki who was then Minister of Finance and others they would expand and move Mangu High School to its current site. He later joined the University of Nairobi as a lecturer and subsequently attained his Ph.D from the same university. He then joined Kenyatta University where he was Chairman of the Department of Educational Foundations, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Director of the Bureau of Research. He was also a founding Commissioner for Higher Education. He was awarded the honor of the Silver Star of Kenya (SS) during one of the annual government decorations in Kenya for his contribution to education in Kenya. He relocated to the United States in the early 1990s where he settled in Worcester and joined WPI and the Worcester Consortium of colleges. It is at WPI he would meet Professor Arthur Gerstenfeld.
Professor Arthur Gerstenfeld is a scholar and inventor. He holds 4 patents for his inventions in air traffic systems devices. He has authored or co-authored nine books. He also launched the WPI Wall street project center where WPI works with some of the largest investment banks. He launched the first African project center in Namibia in 2003 and in Cape Town in 2007. He also led the WPI team and working with Namibia Polytechnic faculty installed systems that transformed the polytechnic to a university. As project director his diverse interests include: Air pollution; water pollution; soil pollution; natural resource management; technology and environment including fish; fire safety and industrial safety; conservation; solar energy; energy policy; impact of new technologies; transportation planning; resource management; effect of technology on social systems; international comparisons; impact of technical change on job & business; safety analysis; hazard assessment; safety management; occupational safety & health; economics in developing countries; technological transfer; appropriate technology; computers & education.
They are aided by the ever growing number of pioneers.
